Methodology
Study using opportunity assessment techniques such as 5 Whys, CATWOE, Ishikawa Diagrams and PDCA, was carried out and the following were identified as the variables impacting protective services:
- Weather trends across Western Europe through the Atlantic into Montreal
- Regulatory compliance with liquor boards and Canada Border Services Agency
- Infrastructure optimization- steamship lines, trucks, warehouses, containers and ports
- Beer quality assurance, freezing points and temperature tolerance
- Systems, logistics and documentation processes re-engineering
The variables showed cyclical interdependence and in collaboration with Labatt’s operations, logistics, risk management, regulatory affairs and quality control teams each one was broken down and the root causes identified and remedied.
Results
- Annual Savings of $2MM
- Reduced Carbon Footprint by over 600 tonnes of CO2 saving 1,200 mature trees annually
